Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a woman of excellent character and full of compassion. The doors of her house were always open to the needy. She was generous. Her husband had passed away, and because of her family’s nobility, honor, and high character, many of Mecca’s prominent leaders and chiefs wished to marry her.

Khadijah was greatly impressed by the Prophet’s noble character and intelligence. She sent Him a marriage proposal through her friend, Nafisah. He accepted the proposal.

On the day of the marriage, Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (Peace Be Upon Him) went to Khadijah’s house with His uncle, Abu Talib, family members, and respected people of Mecca, and their marriage was solemnized. Allah Almighty blessed Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (Peace Be Upon Him) and Khadijah with six children:

  1. Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her)
  2. Ruqayyah (may Allah be pleased with her)
  3. Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her)
  4. Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her)
  5. Qasim (may Allah be pleased with him)
  6. Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)

Two sons, Qasim and Abdullah, passed away in childhood.

The marriage of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (Peace Be Upon Him) and Khadijah proved to be a perfect example in every respect. Khadijah supported her husband in every happiness and sorrow. Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam (Peace Be Upon Him) also took great care of his wife. Allah also blessed the Prophet with a son through Mariyah al-Qibtiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), named Ibrahim. He also passed away in childhood. اِنَّا لِلّٰہِ وَاِنَّآ اِلَیْہِ رَاجِعُوْنَ Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un (“Indeed we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.”)
